This isn’t the first time that Felix came under fire for being controversial, so naturally he took it down after a few hours of backlash and then apologized for it on twitter shortly thereafter. The meme wasn’t very tasteful, it was implying that demi calls her mom for money to get a burger, but instead uses that money to buy heroin… yeah, mayybe a little too soon Felix. We do know now that Demi is awake and with her family, but that also some information about the overdose was reported incorrectly.
In a wave of celebrities pledging their support for Demi online, it seems that kjelberg went a different direction with his online presence. And He has one. BIG. online presence. He’s the most popular youtube channel in the world, by far. Pewdiepie has 15.7million twitter followers, which sounds like a pretty solid amount. But his youtube channel boasts a whopping 64 Million subscribers. So his voice is heard by a lot of ears. And it’s important to remember the kind of impact you have on those people. Disney cut ties with pewdiepie in the past when he came under fire for jokingly saying the N word.. Which lets be honest, just doesn’t work. When he deleted the insensitive lovato meme, he tweeted simply “deleted meme. I didn’t mean anything with it and I didn’t fully know about the situation. I realize now it was insensitive, sorry!”
So what do you think about this recent pewdiepie backlash? Are you no longer a fan? Does this cross a line for you? Where do you stand on all this craziness??
