Tana’s response came via a three part docu-series from YouTube icon Shane Dawson who, along with many other creators, planned to make an appearance and hang with fans at Tanacon a few weeks back. Unfortunately, the event did not go as planned and the videos Shane created really does a great job at delving into the full back story and getting an official response from Tana herself. In part three of the series, which is titled ‘The Real Truth About TanaCon,’ we see some very honest, raw emotions from the pair as they break down what transpired with the event’s organizer Good Times and more specifically the man behind the company, Michael Weiss.
In the final five minutes of the video, we see Tana being documented by The Good Times film crew in the time leading up to Tanacon. As she speaks with Michael, she tries very hard to ensure that the event will be safe over and over again. She opens up about every aspect of what happened and honestly the coolest part of the video is how supportive Shane is of Tana, even when serving up some hard facts about what happened at Tanacon.
At the close of the video, Shane serves some additional hard facts – for example, Michael, the Tanacon organizer from Good Times said 5108 VIP tickets were sold, while only about 200-300 free tickets were given out. In regards to security, there were apparently 25 guards contracted to be at the event, which is less than half the amount technically required with such a large crowd. In addition, there were 325-thousand dollars in ticket sales and the ticket company VEEPS is currently holding the money. As a term of the contract, Michael’s company Good Times will be forced to front the money to reimburse all the tickets sold. The video also reveals that Michael is the sole owner and essentially the ooonly employee of Good Times, meaning he’s personally responsible for reimbursing all the tickets.
Major props to Shane for really working hard to get answers to the tough questions surrounding Tanacon and for being a good friend to Tana. Good friends will call you out when you’ve messed up, and it’s clear that Tana respected him more for it.
Here’s the closing moment from his docu-series
Also you gotta give props to Tana for being so open and honest through this experience. When it comes down to it, the little details don’t matter as much as the big picture. The event was a disaster and both Michael and Tana understand that they played a part in that. And at least they can admit that to the people who originally supported the event.
