Shawn Mendes’ upcoming album may be coming out in just a couple of days, but that’s not stopping him from giving his fans a little sneak peek at what’s to come. In fact, Shawn just dropped a new track titled, ‘Nervous,’ from his new, self-titled album and some fans think it’s a tribute to Selena Gomez’s 2017 hit ‘Bad Liar.’
Let’s take a listen, shall we? Here’s Selena’s song…
And this is Shawn’s:
After listening to both I can kinda the similarities. Both ‘Bad Liar’ and ‘Nervous’ have a prominent walking bass line and the rhythmic pattern of the vocals are very similar. Not to mention both songs are basically about having a crush on someone and being nervous around them. However, regardless of whether or not ‘Nervous’ is a copy of Sel’s “Bad Liar,” fans are totally into it.
One user wrote QUOTE, “#nervous intro reminds me of Bad Liar, and Shawn’s vocals are so different to what I’m use to but so amazing. Absolutely incredible song!!” While another wrote, “Nervous definitely reminds me of Bad Liar, but I loved it. Love how the tune, the melody, everything is upbeat and fun when it’s about someone being nervous. The cooperation with the drums make this song so lively and that’s incredible.”
Meanwhile, another fan explained why it makes total sense Shawn’s track sounds very similar to Selena’s. They wrote QUOTE, “It makes sense that Shawn Mendes made a “response” to Bad Liar because he was a big supporter of it when it came out. So it would be the guy version of it.”
What do you guys think? Did Shawn’s song remind you of Selena’s or do you just not hear it and that they’re both completely different songs?
