We are just days away – four days to be exact — from the premiere of 13 Reasons Why’s newest season and it’s safe to say every fan is wondering what they can expect in season 2. Well, wonder no more because even though Netflix is releasing season 2 this Friday, Dylan Minnette is spilling all the secrets surrounding 13 Reasons Why’s upcoming season.
In an interview with Seventeen.com Dylan opened up about his character and revealed that while it seemed like Clay found some sort of closure at the end of season one, season two shows that Clay is in fact, still recovering from the aftermath of Hannah’s death.
Dylan said QUOTE, “I think that the impact of Hannah and the tapes on Clay’s life will never ever go away no matter how hard he tries. No matter what, it’s going to take him a while to recover. You can see that it’s not easy for Clay to let anything go. And that’s expected. I don’t think anyone expects Clay to just kind of think of Hannah and be like, ‘No, it was nothing.’”
Dylan also revealed that while there won’t be many new Clay and Hannah scenes, expect a TON of new flashbacks featuring Hannah with her other classmates. He said QUOTE, “I think that you’ll see more interactions between Hannah and some other characters we haven’t seen before. I think that’s interesting because in season one, whenever there was a flashback, it was either Hannah or Clay’s flashback and either Clay or Hannah or both were always in it. Now, maybe there will be a flashback they’re not in and you can learn more about something else. I thought that was pretty cool.”
And speaking of learning more about something else, Dylan told Seventeen.com that fans will learn WAY more about Hannah’s life in season 2 than we all did in season 1. He even touched base on why 13 Reasons Why deserved a season two after so many fans thought the show should’ve just ended after its first season.
Dylan explained QUOTE, “It would have been weird to end Hannah’s story in season one because we only heard very small tidbits of her life told by her. There’s a whole life that Hannah had, and there’s more we can learn about her. Overall, learning more about her is more important to the entire narrative.”
As Dylan mentioned earlier, Clay is obviously still dealing with his feelings about Hannah, BUT Dylan teased that there is a possibility of a new love interest for Clay in season two since Skye, Clay’s childhood friend, is still around in the series. He said QUOTE, “I can’t say too much, but Skye is still around and in the picture and there’s a chance that her and Clay could be friends or more. That’s something you’ll learn pretty quickly when the season starts. I don’t want to spoil that for you, but she’s around.”
And last but not least, Dylan revealed that the show will continue to offer tools for suicide prevention without sounding too much like a PSA. He said QUOTE, “…by reading certain scenes, there is definitely maybe some commentary within scenes without being outright. They tried their best to address that within dialogue, but that’s really hard to do without being condescending or talking to the camera and having dialogue that sounds out of place. But I think they tried their hardest to absolutely do that.”
